Our Community

Jackson Area Catholic Schools are located throughout Jackson County in the south central portion of the State of Michigan. Jackson County has a population of over 156,000. The City of Jackson, with a population of over 35,000, is the heart of Jackson County.

Manufacturing, retail and service related businesses are the strengths of the local economy. Major employers include the Michigan Department of Corrections, W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital, Consumer Energy, Eaton-Aeroquip, Meijer, Inc., local government and Jackson Community College. Other major employers are related to education, technology and the automotive and steel industries.

Jackson County is blessed with many inland lakes and parks. Recreation activities center on water sports, golf, auto and horse racing, and many summer festivals. The Jackson Symphony Orchestra and Performing Arts Center at Jackson Community College ensure cultural opportunities for our residents. The Hurst Planetarium, Michigan Space and Science Center and the Ella Sharp Museum add to the quality of life in the Jackson County area.

Educational opportunities include four Catholic elementary schools, Jackson Catholic Middle School, Lumen Christi High School, Jackson Community College, Baker College and Spring Arbor University. There are fifteen colleges or universities within one hour of Jackson.
